A&E Travel Center Awarded Safe Shop Assured™ Certification

The Muscatine-based convenience retailer has earned the certification for its commitment to essential store safety and cleanliness measures

MUSCATINE, Iowa (March 30, 2021) — The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated many retail trends—including expectations of cleanliness and safety. Not only is it essential for retailers to implement the right policies and procedures, but they must communicate effectively so consumers understand that their concerns are taken seriously.

Announced today, A&E Travel Center has been awarded Safe Shop Assured™ certification. Implementation of Safe Shop branding will highlight the company having met and exceeded a 10-point checklist of essential safety measures.

We are excited about obtaining the Safe Shop Assured certification as it aligns with our intentions from the inception of our business to provide a clean, safe, and friendly environment for our customers,” states Rich Maynard, co-owner of A&E Travel Center and a practicing nurse anesthetist. “Now, more than ever, employees and customers need to know which companies maintain high health and safety standards.”

For more than ten years, A&E Travel Center has focused on serving both the local community and long-distance travelers on Highway 61. Safety and cleanliness were priorities from the beginning. With an ownership group that includes a healthcare professional, high standards have always been a part of daily operations. In recent years, A&E Travel Center has supported organizations in both Muscatine and surrounding communities. Some of the organizations supported include Rebuilding Together, Muscatine High School Booster Club, L&M High School Athletics, Erika Kate Hope Alliance, and the United Way of Muscatine.

Having earned Safe Shop Assured™ certification, A&E Travel Center will showcase its commitment to safety and cleanliness by deploying branded decals at high-visibility touchpoints.

“Being a resident of Iowa myself, I understand how locally-owned convenience stores are often more accurately described as community stores,” says Frank Beard, director of Safe Shop. “Retailers like A&E Travel Center uphold high standards and take a lot of pride in serving their customers. The challenge right now is that the hard work of keeping stores clean and safe often happens behind the scenes in ways that aren’t always apparent. Safe Shop Assured™ certification makes it easier to quickly identify the brands who do the right things.”
